Care for children outside the education system

The National Council Twinning Netherlands Nicaragua and the Netherlands Eindhoven city twinned with Chinandega through the mayor of Eindhoven, likewise the City and the ministry of education in Chinandega are supporting the implementation of the MDGs related to education. We all have been lobbying and campaigning for the search for economic resources that come to help with reducing the number of children outside the education system.

Process Development

In agreement with government institutions and NGOs working in education and also with the Ministry of Education we developed evaluation meetings on current national policies in education.

Agreements and Commitments

The Chinantlan Association, Save the Children and Plan International agree to develop a remedial plan so that children who come late to the school system can catch up with lessons at the beginning of classes developed for this proposal. The Ministry of Education determined by ministerial decree the non-closure of enrollment in all public education institutions, either primary or secondary schools in the country. We have been there, reviving educational tables at each study center, strengthening the municipal education committee and the movement written by the departmental delegate education that focuses on all concerns about “What?” and “How?” as to implement the strategy to reach children outside the education system.

Methods of the Process

-Research has been conducted based on the following aspects:

-Analysis of school coverage of actors and organizations in the municipality of Chinandega that impact on education.

-Identification of actors involved with economic resources in education.

-Development of action plans and negotiation with actors involved in education.

-Signing of a cooperation agreement with the present actors and institutions involved in education

Statistics

According to the latest enrollment data provided by the Ministry for education in October 2010, we helped 2105 more children to stay in school.

Investment for 2011

Among those involved in this program are; the Municipal Delegation of the Ministry of Education, the Chinantlan Association, City Hall of Chinandega, the National Council Twinning Nicaragua Netherlands, Foundation Coen, House of Youth Volunteers for Change, Plan Nicaragua and Builders of the Future.

	In February 2011 we repared the roof of the primary school El Naranjo. The old roof contained cancer-causing asbestos and was replaced by corrugated iron. Furthermore we plan to replace the roof from the primary school Jesus de Nazareth for the same reasons.
	300 school kits for children outside the education system in 9 primary schools in the municipality of Chinandega have been delivered 2011.
	In 2011 we repared 300 school chairs in all nine participating schools.
	300 children captured outside the education system are receiving daily food packages, these children are divided amongst nine primary schools in the municipality of Chinandega.
