The aim is that young people who are grouped into gangs and repeatedly disturb the residents are grouped together in leagues and so enter the tournament that opens every year in April and ends in August.
Who is eligible?
Open to all young people who are at high social risk, i.e. who are unemployed and not studying, aged 14 to 25 years, young people who want to change their lifestyle and are willing to leave behind the acts of banditry.
What are the prizes for the winners?
After each tournament the prizes are symbolic, a trophy for the winner.
The National Police, Chinantlan Association, House of The Young, The Ministry of Family and Group solidarity with Nicaragua in Leverkusen, Germany have developed activities to promote the dissolution of violence in the streets of the city of Chinandega.
The foot ball court is a result of meetings between youth groups, organizing the first competition in 2000 in which 20 teams from different neighborhoods and some rural communities. Annually, there are two or three events during each year and 30 to 40 participating teams composed of 1000 young members of the teams and fans.
Results
-The reduction of violence and delinquency among adolescents and young people in the streets of Chinandega.
-Adolescents and young people have developed organizational skills and responsibility.
-An increased number of teenagers and young people participate in the competitions.
-Conducting educational retreats every weekend
